The Facts on Hearing Loss

  • Hearing loss can develop gradually, over 25-30 years.1
  • Symptoms can be so subtle that people don't even realize they're affected.
  • 1 in 10 people hear so poorly that they would benefit from a hearing aid - but only 20% of them actually get one.2
  • 90% of all diagnosed hearing loss is sensorineural in nature.3

The Importance of Hearing Tests

Hearing tests should be considered an essential component of your annual medical check-up. Easy-to-use self-assessments (like our Quiz) can be a great start, and should be offered to your patients. If a potential hearing loss is detected, then he or she can be referred to us for further evaluation and proper rehabilitation.

How Treatment Can Help

Your patients with hearing loss may be hesitant to wear a hearing device - and that's normal. However, it's important that you stress how greatly the right hearing device can improve their life. Studies (by the National Council on Aging (NCOA)) show that compared to those who have untreated hearing loss, those who've sought treatment (typically via hearing devices), report:

  • Higher levels of involvement in social activities
  • More positive social and family experiences
  • Greater emotional, mental, and physical well-being
  • Fewer worries
